What is Plexr/Plasma Pen Treatment?
Plexr (plasma sublimation) treatment is a non-surgical procedure designed to contract and tighten superficial eyelid and facial skin. It is particularly useful for patients with mild upper-lid dermatochalasis or lower-lid skin redundancy that may cause ocular irritation, cosmetic asymmetry, or difficulty maintaining lid hygiene.
The treatment works by inducing controlled skin contraction through plasma energy, helping to restore skin firmness and reduce surface irregularities. It is performed in an outpatient clinical setting under local anaesthesia and does not involve incisions or sutures.

How Does Plexr/Plasma Pen Treatment Work?
The Plexr is a portable handheld device that works through the "sublimation" process (the process of converting a solid into a gas) and the ionisation of gases in the air. This produces "plasma," which is then used to contract and tighten the surface of the skin.
During the procedure, Dr Shah-Desai marks a small, precise treatment grid on the skin surface and delivers plasma energy to induce tissue contraction and skin retraction. This technique helps reduce mild eyelid laxity, improve lid contour, and relieve symptoms of ocular surface irritation related to redundant skin folds.
The procedure is performed in-clinic with local anaesthetic and typically requires 2-3 sessions spaced six weeks apart for optimal results.

The questions patients ask most often, answered by the clinic. If yours isn’t here, ask us directly - we would be delighted to help.
- Plasma is the 4th state of matter, formed when gases in the air are ionised using a specific device, resulting in a short electrical arc that treats problematic areas without causing undesired heat to the surrounding skin. This plasma energy induces controlled epidermal contraction, helping to reduce mild dermatochalasis and improve periocular comfort.
- A local anaesthetic cream and a small local injection are applied before treatment. Patients usually experience mild warmth or tingling. Following the session, tiny carbonised points may appear, which heal naturally over several days.
- Following treatment, the eyelids temporarily swell, which resolves in 48-72 hours and may necessitate the use of oral anti-inflammatory medications. The carbon crust takes between 4 and 10 days to dissipate. Scratching, picking, or rubbing the treated region is not recommended since pinkish skin discolouration or hypo/hyperpigmentation may persist. You will be required to use Oxygenatix foundation, which must be administered to the treated area for 2 weeks to help in healing.
- Do not undergo Plexr® soft surgery if you:
Are pregnant
Have anaemia
Are a nursing mother
Have very dark skin since there is a possibility of pale patches (hypopigmentation) or post-inflammatory dark spots (hyperpigmentation), particularly if the carbon crusts are scraped or scratched - The results of a course can last up to 1-2 years. No treatment, even surgery, provides permanent results. Ageing is a dynamic process, and your Plexr treatment will not prevent future ageing.
- The treatment may cause swelling, scabbing, and crusting. As Plexr basically burns the skin in a controlled fashion, each of those small lightning-bolt marks has the potential to induce scarring; and because of this, three rounds of treatment are recommended for the best results.
