The Procedure

How Does Radiofrequency Treatment Work?

Quick and comfortable: the 30-minute treatment with an RF handheld device involves no pain or discomfort. Minimal side effects: mild redness and slight swelling may occur but typically subside within a few hours. Unrivalled expertise: performed by a leading oculoplastic surgeon's trained team.

Throughout the procedure, your eye doctor will use an RF handheld device to gently massage around your eye with a soothing gel. This will result in an electrical current being sent into your skin, creating a warming sensation. The RF treatment is not associated with pain or discomfort and typically takes around 30 minutes to complete.

Following the treatment, you might observe some redness and slight swelling around your eyes, but this should diminish within a few hours. Moisturising the area and avoiding heat exposure for a couple of hours may be recommended by your eye doctor. It requires a series of 3-6 treatments every week and offers long-term results with minimal side effects.

What is Radiofrequency Treatment?

Radiofrequency (RF) treatment is a non-surgical procedure that uses controlled energy to gently heat the deeper layers of the skin. This heat stimulates collagen remodelling and may help improve skin firmness. It is sometimes used in the periocular area under medical supervision to manage mild skin laxity, hooding, or texture irregularity.

The treatment is not a substitute for surgical correction but may be considered for patients unsuitable or unwilling to undergo surgery.

Patient Questions About Radiofrequency treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions patients ask most often, answered by the clinic. If yours isn’t here, ask us directly - we would be delighted to help.

  • Yes, when performed by an experienced clinician in a medical setting, RF treatment is considered safe for the periocular area. It can also support eyelid skin health and, in some cases, help patients with mild evaporative dry eye, though this must be confirmed by your eye specialist.
  • Exposure to very high RF levels can cause heating of the body's tissue and raise body temperature. If the body can't handle or get rid of the extra heat, it could lead to tissue damage in humans.
  • This non-invasive procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to complete.
  • No, you shouldn't feel any pain during the RF treatment. Using the RF device, your eye doctor will gently massage the skin behind your lower and upper eyelid with a calming gel.
  • You might see some redness and mild swelling around your eyes for a few hours after the procedure. It is a good idea to avoid exposing the area to heat until your skin returns to normal and the swelling goes away. Your doctor might recommend gently moisturising the area to soothe your skin after the treatment.

Dr Sabrina is the magic eye fairy. Only 10 days after my lower lid bleph and midface lift and nearly all bruising and swelling has gone. After a lot of research, I knew after my initial consultation with Dr Sabrina she was the one I trusted. Such a warm & kind woman. I am so pleased I put my Trust in Dr Shah. Immensely happy with the results and will be back to get my upper eyes done in the future. Thank you to the whole team.

I had been recommended Dr Sabrina by a medical colleague & am extremely glad I made the journey from Southampton to the Perfect Eye Clinic in London to discuss blepharoplasty. The team were all so friendly & very professional and most importantly, Dr Sabrina informed me that I had a bilateral eye ptosis. This explained a number of issues I was experiencing. I will definitely be booking to have a correction of bilateral eye ptosis and upper blepharoplasty. Can't recommend enough.

But a big part of my review is how lovely the support staff are too. Namely Safiya and Lisa who greet you with such warmness and respect. I highly recommend this clinic as I have done so with many friends.
